Summer days
Warm air circling around
The porch chair as you sit
Licking a pop-sicle
Being reminded that
You don't have anywhere to go
No obligations
The cool water beckons
As mothers, fathers and children of all ages
Splash in the warmth of the soft summer sun
Feet, sinking into the sand
Heads, reaching up to catch some, any of that warm summer sun
Knowing that one day it will all come to an end
The memories of summer will be placed in a jar,
The lid fastened and the jar stored away
One the top shelf, ready to come back next summer
When it is needed
When the summer air, breeze and trees draw it back
Back to the day when it was wanted
Needed
And cared for in the dark nights when fireflies danced
Around the fire
And the summer days seemed to carry on forever
